COMICS - 2o1o
Debra DiGiovanni
Debra DiGiovanni has been quoted as "one of Canada's fastest rising stand-up talents". Her comedy has a sharp edge while
maintaining a playful, happy air and her persona is one of the best developed of any comic working today. Couple that with a
hilarious act that is so personal everyone can relate and you see why Debra is so popular; her humour and charm lies in her
unflinching honesty and openness. Toronto's NOW Magazine raves, calling her "the Best Stand Up to see after a Messy Break
Up".
Her comedy career began with the help of Humber College's inaugural year of their Comedy Writing and Performance course in
2000 and has since been nominated for the coveted Tim Sims Comedy Encouragement Award in 2002. In the same year she won the
Canadian Comedy Award for the Best Newcomer in Stand Up. She taped her first Comedy Now Special for CTV in the summer of 2004
and in 2005 was nominated for Best Female Stand up. 2005 was her first appearance Just For Laughs Festival where she was
invited on a cross Canada tour opening for Russell Peters (2005-2006). In 2007, Debra was voted Canada's Best Female Comedian
at the Canadian Comedy Awards; her second win. Toronto's NOW magazine also voted her self produced show "I'm Just Sayin…" as
the #1 show of 2007. Debra appeared on the 5th season of NBC's hit show Last Comic Standing where she was chosen as a top 10
finalist competing against comedians worldwide-making it to the Top 8. Also in 2007; she taped her first Gala at the Just for
Laughs Festival in Montreal and over the holidays, Debra participated in Toronto's production of the Nutcracker, filling the
celebrity role of 'Canon Doll'. In 2008, she taped her second 'Comedy Now!' special for CTV/Comedy network and this past
spring completed a successful west coast run with her Girls Night Out tour. She ended 2008 by headlining Massey Hall for their
New Years Eve gala.
Debra is also working with the Slice network for a second season, co-hosting a series called 'Plastic Makes Perfect' and she
can be heard regularly on the CBC radio show 'The Debaters'. As well as a being a favorite on the festival circuit-Debra's
easily one of the most popular jurors on the hugely successful Much Music show 'Video On Trial' (she has over 6000 Facebook
friends!!) And, Debra was also invited to perform on the Barenaked Ladies cruise ship 'Ships & Dip 3' opening for Harland
Williams and was recently honored by hosting an evening of the 2008 Gemini awards, as well as co-hosting the Genie awards with
